Are you seeking a small-group wilderness adventure off the beaten path--one that offers physical challenge, yet provides you with opportunities for reflection and solitude? Join us for a river rafting, canoeing, sea kayaking, backpacking or hiking base camp expedition in North America's pure wilderness.

For more than two decades, Equinox Wilderness Expeditions has explored Arctic wild rivers , coasts, glacial fjords and rugged mountain country, seeking out the unusual and the magnificent. We organize expeditions from British Columbia's Coast Mountains to the glacial fjords of Southeast Alaska, out to the Aleutian Chain of islands, north to the sweeping tundra and mountains of the Alaska's wild arctic and the Brooks Range, rivers of the Northwest Territories, and to Nunavut, northern Canada's High Arctic province of constant summer light. Fall and Spring may find us in the US Southwest or Latin America. We are a small company, and we run our own trips, catering to a small number of adventurers every year. In Scandinavia and Brazil, we partner with proven companies with whom we have built personal relationships.

We believe the earth's wild places offer a path for balancing the hectic pace of modern life with simplicity and a personal connection with the land. Here we find solitude and silence. Entering the land on its own terms--accepting the rhythms of wind, weather, and wildlife--we encounter natural ecosystems uninterrupted by human endeavor, and experience the diverse and rich flora and fauna of our wondrous planet. We connect with each other in ways that are often not possible in our day-to-day lives. This is the gift of wilderness.

We spent the fall visiting some of Brazil's wildest corners, and meeting with adventure operators with whom we share a similar philosophy We continue to build relationships with ecotourism operators throughout South America, and will be adding exciting new trips to Brazil and Argentina in the coming months. We spent a month in Ecuador in November/December, with a chartered sailboat in the Galapagos, a trek from the Andes to the Amazon, and a week of birding, beaches, and hiking.

Check out our 2010 Schedule to see what's planned for the coming year. December 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. We'll begin the celebration in 2010 with a variety of hiking base camp and paddling trips. We're taking a group to the Sheenjek River in honor of Olaus and Margaret Murie, whose vision was key to protecting this magnificent wilderness. Our paddling trip on the Kongakut River--a traverse of the North Slope of the Arctic Refuge to the Beaufort Sea--continues to be our most popular trip.

We're excited this year to offer our first packrafting trips. After years of tecnological improvements in design and fabrics, packrafts are now cutting edge 'Backpacking Light" tools. Join us for a combination backpack and float trip in the Brooks Range this summer. For the second time, we are also offering a walrus and Bering Sea wildlife base camp. Professional photographer Hugh Rose will lead this journey to the remote Bering Sea coast to photograph walrus, puffins, caribou, seals, and grizzly bears.

We are proud that National Geographic Adventure Magazine rated us as one of the Best Adventure Tour Operators on the Planet, including one of the Top River and Sea Outfitters, for service, education, sustainability and spirit of adventure. We've been green since our beginnings in 1985, and we're still doing our best to protect the places we visit.

Whether you are interested in wildlife viewing, bird watching, photography, whitewater, fly fishing, peak bagging, or any other activity, we'll share with you pristine wilderness and help you find a balance between activity and contemplation. If you don't see a trip that is perfect, please inquire, as we are happy to create a custom itinerary or private adventure to suit your group, goals, and schedule. Families especially love working with us to create unique itineraries.
